Three easy steps to decluttering your home and preparing to move.

Do you want more money for your home? Decluttering is a great way to get your home ready to list and ensure that it sells for a little bit more. When you get rid of all the extra items and make your house more show-ready, it will appeal more to buyers, which will get you more money. Decluttering is easy, too. All you need to do is separate your items into three categories: keep, donate, and toss.

1. Keep. Start off by packing personal items and keepsakes that could distract potential buyers. Next, pack up anything that you need to keep but don’t use daily. Make sure you separate items that you will need before you’re moved in, like tax documents, checkbooks, extra keys, and remotes. We have a checklist you can use while packing to make sure you’re getting your house ready to show at the same time. Let us know if you’d like a copy!

2. Sell and Donate. Any item that is still in good shape but won’t fit in your next home should be sold or donated. Places like Goodwill might need these items, or you could have a garage sale and get some extra cash.

3. Toss. Anything that you don’t need to keep, can’t sell, or can’t donate should be thrown away. There are a lot of ways to make throwing away items easier, so if you’re finding it difficult to get rid of anything, do a quick search for ideas to help you let go.
